En esta segunda edición de Holanda en Madrid, organizada con motivo de la Semana de la Arquitectura de 2012, el encuentro se centra en el presente y futuro de la vivienda social moderna, es decir, en la evolución y transformación de aquellos barrios y edificios que han marcado un hito en la historia de la vivienda social del siglo XX por su calidad arquitectónica y urbana, y cuya conservación representa un reto ineludible para nuestras ciudades. En el encuentro se exponen tanto los proyectos y edificios en su estado original, como su presente y posible futuro, poniendo de manifiesto las diferentes estrategias para hacer compatible su conservación y su adaptación a un uso contemporáneo. La cultura del mantenimiento, el valor patrimonial de la vivienda social, su potencial valor turístico y de promoción cultural, o la contradicción entre restauración y renovación, son algunos de los temas principales a tratar en el encuentro.

In this second edition of Holanda en Madrid, organized on the occasion of Architecture Week 2012, the meeting focused on the present and future of modern social housing, that is, on the evolution and transformation of those neighbourhoods and buildings that have marked a milestone in the history of social housing in the 20th century due to their architectural and urban quality, and whose conservation represents an unavoidable challenge for our cities. In the meeting, the projects and buildings were exhibited in their original state, as well as in their present and possible future states, highlighting the different strategies for their conservation and their adaptation to contemporary use. The culture of maintenance, the heritage value of social housing, its potential value for tourism and cultural promotion, or the contradiction between restoration and renovation, are some of the main topics discussed at the meeting.
